Protect Yourself During the Holiday Season

In this past week I have heard from 2 clients that their homes were broken into.  Both homes have a monitored alarm system but in each case the burglar alarm was not armed.  They both had planned to leave the home for only 20-30 minutes and were in a hurry so decided not to arm the alarm system.  When they arrived home….one found their home in complete disarray and not a lot taken and the other found all of their jewelry stolen.   Unfortunately it only takes minutes for someone to come in and rob your home.  Especially with the holiday season approaching please do not forget to to turn on your home alarm system.  This is just a reminder to all of us who have alarm system to turn them on, even when you are leaving your home for just a few minutes.  After all, you get a discount on your home insurance when you have a monitored alarm system…..so why not arm your home and have that peace of mind!

Example of Why a Good Agent will Save You Money

Last weekend I was meeting with a family friend to review their health insurance and provide my input on their current policy.

It started off as a typical review and their policy looked pretty normal.   Then I got to the maternity coverage section and saw that it was covered and that they were paying a significant portion of their premium to have the maternity coverage.

I leaned over and kind of whispered to (I'll call him Frank for privacy reasons) Frank with a slight chuckle, hey are you planning on having more kids?  Frank had a very peculiar look on his face and said no, why do you ask.  I said, well Frank you have it covered here and are paying about $2000 dollars a year for it.  At that point Frank's peculiar look changed immediately.

You see, in actuality this wasn't very funny at all.  Frank and his wife are both over 60yrs old and their kids are grown with families of their own.  Plus Frank didn't find it very funny that he had been paying for  coverage for the last 20yrs unnecessarily.

20yrs at $2000 per year is $40,000 that should have been in Frank's pocket that wasn't.

So next time you see a commercial or are tempted to buy insurance from a 1-800 number I strongly recommend you reconsider.  Life changes over the years and so does your insurance needs.  A 1-800 number is not going to call you and remind what needs to be updated and changed in your insurance program, but a good agent will.

I meet with all of my clients regularly and definitely after life events.  There is value in having an expert walk you through your insurance program every step of the way.  If you want to meet with an expert please call or e-mail me.

Property Damage Coverage on your Auto Insurance: Do you understand it?

As I was making my normal drive into the office this morning I saw a significant accident off to the side of the highway.  For all of you making that 580 West commute with me in the morning, this is almost an everyday occurrence.  As I saw the two cars smashed, and the guard rail obliterated, I naturally said to myself "I hope the person at fault has good property damage coverage".

It is pretty common as I have this conversation with clients on a daily basis, that most people don't really understand what property damage actually covers and what you are likely to be sued for in an accident.

So here is the Relevance of this coverage and why it is important.  It covers all property that is damaged; meaning all Autos, (Think of the 4 car pile up that you are at fault for when you rear end the 1 car in front of you), the guard rail, the street sign, the bus stop, the landscaping, basically anything and everything that is damaged.  And don't worry, the city will definitely find you quickly and bill you for all of these things.

So what is your coverage limit, 25K, 50K, 100K?  How fast would that money be exhausted if you damaged a couple luxury cars on our Bay Area roads and some city or private property?  Realize that once your insurance coverage is exhausted you will be personally sued for the rest.

Don't risk wage garnishment and liquidation of all your assets because you saved a few dollars a month on insurance.  There are a handful of vital coverages on all insurance policies that really save you from life changing  events.   If you are not sure which ones those are, please call me @ 888-992-9491.

Why Life Insurance for Children is a Must Have

As a  father not a day goes by that I don't think about how to protect my daughter and what I can do to secure her future. Not only do I think about her future, I also think about my future grandchildren and the generations to come after that. I know it sounds crazy to think about my grandchilren when my daughter is only  two years old, however, the reality is, you only get one chance at this.  Decisions you make today or don't make today for your child will not only affect their lives, it will affect their childrens' lives as well.

Here are the simple facts and what you need to know about juvenille life insurance:

The right product guarantees that your child has life insurance for the rest of their lives.  This means they will be in position to protect their children no matter what happens to them as they grow up. I have seen many adults that can't provide for their families as they want to because they became diabetic at a young age, have Asthma, had to battle cancer, or for other reasons that have made life insurance not obtainable or affordable for them. Imagine your child, grown with their family, and they can't qualify for Life Insurance.  What will happen then?  The right Juvenille Life Policy guarantees insurability for life. You can guarantee your Child's Family is secure for as little as $10-$20 a month.

It is a great investment.   Many life insurance products have guaranteed returns that pay out far more than a Savings Account, CD, College Savings and College Investment Plans.   You will be amazed at how quickly the cash value in these products can grow.  They make a great gift on a Wedding Day, Pays for College, Down Payment for the First House, or that extra something that gives them the head start needed.
